Owen Morgan: Double Bass, Electric Bass, Producer and Educator ABOUT

As a musician, teacher and student Owen has worked in a wide range of artistic activity as contrabassist, electric bassist, electronic musician, composer, engineer and producer. Although experienced in many musical styles as a performer and session musician, his focus is as an improvising musician, playing as a sideman and leader in numerous ensembles across a career spanning over 20 years.

Based in London, Owen regularly works with Chris Ingham, George Double, Paul Higgs, Ben Holder, Duncan Hemstock, Joanna Eden, Alan Barnes, Tom Smith and Harry Greene and has also recently performed with Nigel Price, Pete Long, Quinten Collins, Jim Mullen, Mark Crooks, Derek Nash, Alex Garnett, Allison Neale, Dominic Ashworth, Greg Abate, Brigitte Beraha, Sarah Moule, and Nat Steel.

He was privileged to share the stage with the since departed greats Tina May and Peter King.

In the studio Owen engineered and mixed Fionn Regan's '100 Acres of Sycammore' and Jetsam's 'A Dream Life of Hackney Marshes', working out of the award winning residential studio Leeders Farm and on location.

Other studio credits include The Darkness (Hot Cakes), Wild Beasts (Two Dancers), Adam Buxton, Max Rafferty (The Kooks), Imelda May, The Rifles, Teenage Fanclub and Pnau.

Within education he has worked with Aldeburgh Young Musicians, A.S. Neill's Summerhill School and many individual arrangements, with past students going on to RCM, RAM and Abbey Road. He has also worked with Recast Music Education, El Sistema and the Britten Sinfonia to provide opportunities, via music, to young people in challenging circumstances.

Owen is currently undertaking a degree in electrical engineering at Royal Holloway University of London, less time for gigs, but with aim to enter into the green energy or sustainable electronics industries after graduating, which will give him something to do during the daytimes!
